Welcome to my blog named after the short film, One to Six, written and created by Brad Woosley. He chose this title for a poignant reason: the loss of his brother to suicide in 2004. Each suicide leaves behind six people who are known as “survivors”. This site was created by survivors, meaning those who have lost a loved one through suicide.
My name is Nora and I am a suicide survivor. I launched this site, along with the collaborative efforts of many wonderful friends, in order to provide insight into the minds of people who are suffering with mental afflictions. We’re here to show others that there are solutions. Please use any of the resources that you see here on the homepage at your leisure. You will find that there are a vast majority of outlets to help you through personal struggles. They are ALL strictly hand picked by me, with the sole intention of assuring that they are accredited and confidential. They are NOT paid links and I make no profit from them.
My best friend, Michael, began my journey towards helping others in need. I never pictured living my life without him. Everyday, I am learning new ways to heal and cope with this loss. Michael took his life at the age of 29 on July 28, 2008 – about a month before his 30th birthday. I met Michael when he had just turned 18. Our friendship spanned almost 12 years, although it felt like a lifetime. His twin sister also committed suicide a few years earlier, leaving their mother childless. I made an oath to always be there for their Mom, Susan, as if she were my own. I will continue to honor my oath out of love for Michael and his family.
Please view this very brief video. In less than three minutes, it will explain to you more than I could ever put into words:
My goal is to advocate awareness, reduce the social stigma of mental illness and to help those affected by severe depression, emotional pain and suicidal thoughts. This is a support network for people to get access to free educational tools, support groups, and hotlines to prevent further suffering from mental and emotional health afflictions.
My fundraising goal, as selfish as it may sound, is to purchase a memorial bench for Susan to sit on when she visits her children at their gravesite. I found a few that cost less than $1,000. Please help me in my effort, if you can, to make a small change in someone’s life that makes all the difference in the world to them. You may do so by clicking on the “Donate” button located on the right side of the homepage. Of course, I will keep you all updated and share the experience of donating this bench to Susan here on this blog when we accomplish this amazing act of kindness.
You may also request to have your donation contributed to another cause of your wish; please just specify it in your note after clicking on PayPal. You will receive a receipt and confirmation email for your contribution.
This blog, One to Six/Healing and Hope for Mental Health, is in dedication to all survivors, and created in honor of our loved ones.
